Speakeasy
4359 N Milwaukee Ave
Relaxed, intimate, and dark.
Hidden below Moonflower is a speakeasy called Nightshade, and it's probably the furthest-from-downtown speakeasy on this list.
My friend Frankie Greco had a chance to peek this spot recently, and he loved it. The review below is built from his experience.
Moonflower / Nightshade is the definition of local legend. It's way northwest of downtown so it's good for folks that live in the area who don't want to tango with traffic.
If you live downtown, you obviously have a ton of options in River North and West Loop, but if you hit a nice spot, it's going to be very popular. Nightshade will have less of that issue.
The decor is chill upstairs in Moonflower, and it feels like your typical millennial bar.
The drinks are creative and Nightshade downstairs has a whole separate menu, so you get two intimate places in one.
Nightshade is all black with some moody lighting. The image attached is of Nightshade.
It feels like you're in the void in a good way. It's Frankie and his girlfriend's favorite spot for a chiller night.
The staff are also super friendly, which is always a plus.
